¡Viva el Voto!

591,000 Latinos are eligible to vote in New Mexico. 10% of them are immigrants. Our families are a growing force in the state’s electoral landscape. Through ¡Viva el Voto! Somos members are building long-term power. Along with year-round organizing campaigns for civil and workers rights, we coordinate citizenship and naturalization outreach, voter registration drives, and nonpartisan get-out-the vote activities. In Santa Fe, Somos partners with the City of Santa Fe, the Literacy Volunteers of Santa Fe, Guadalupe Credit Union, Santa Fe Area Home Builders Association, the Santa Fe Public Library, Adelante, and the National Partnership for New Americans. In southeastern New Mexico, Somos partners with Colonias Development Council and local community colleges.

Ciudadanía ¡Ya!

Approximately 46,500 New Mexican immigrants are eligible to apply for U.S. Citizenship. Nearly half live in rural communities where legal services are scarce. Ciudadanía ¡Ya! is Somos’ community-based pro se naturalization project that emphasizes community activism, leadership development, and voter engagement in Santa Fe, Lea, Eddy, Chaves and Curry Counties. Since 2015, hundreds of Somos members have successfully become U.S. citizens through this program, registered to vote, and engaged in legislative advocacy and get-out-the-vote campaigns.

Ciudadanía ¡Ya! offers:
  • Information sessions on eligibility, fees & fee waivers
  • Clinics and support to fill out citizenship applications Small classes & tutoring to prepare for citizenship exams & interviews
  • Low-interest loans for application fee (for Santa Fe residents only) Voter registration information

Through our sister 501(c)(4) organization Somos Acción, we reach out to 125,000 infrequent voters with issue and candidate education in eight counties through door knocking, phone banking, direct mail and social media campaigns.
