591,000 Latinos are eligible to vote in New Mexico, and over 10% of them are immigrants.  Our families are a growing force in the state’s electoral landscape.  Through ¡Viva el Voto! Somos members are building long-term power in semi urban and rural communities throughout New Mexico.  Along with year-round organizing campaigns for civil and worker’s rights, we coordinate citizenship and naturalization outreach, voter registration drives, and nonpartisan get-out-the vote activities.

¡Viva el Voto! 2016 highlights:

  • Somos members organized citizenship outreach events in four rural counties (McKinley, Curry, Chaves, and Lea) and identified 70 immigrants to apply for citizenship and register to vote in time for the 2016 election.
  • Registered 600 new voters.
  • Reached out to more than 11,000 infrequent New American voters through door-knocking, phone banking and targeted mailings.

Nearly 8,000 legal permanent residents in eastern and southeastern New Mexico are eligible to become U.S. citizens. That's why Somos is ramping up its citizenship outreach in 2018. Our members in Lea, Curry and Chaves counties are partnering with Instituto Legal to recruit applicants, help them naturalize and get them out to vote. If you are a legal permanent resident, would like to become a U.S. citizen and join our campaign, please call us at (505) 424-7832.
