Summary:

Staff will implement a renters’ rights and fair housing project geared toward low-income Latino immigrants. Duties include: conducting outreach to immigrant community; organizing “know-your-rights” workshops; recruiting and training immigrant tenant leaders; organize immigrant-led tenant associations; and working with associations to change local policies in order to improve housing conditions.

Qualifications:

1. Experience working in low-income immigrant communities.
2. Fluency in Spanish and English.
3. Must be knowledgeable regarding immigration issues.
4. Must be able to communicate effectively in person and in writing.
5. Computer literacy which includes being able to work with word processing,
   database and publishing programs.

1. Implement community education campaign about renters’ rights and fair housing laws that includes radio, newspaper, and television advertisements.
2. Organize fair housing and renters’ rights workshops for immigrants.
3. Train immigrant volunteers to conduct know-your-rights workshops.
4. Identify immigrant leaders in mobile home parks and apartment complexes and assist them in disseminating rights information and organizing tenant associations.
5. Coordinate door-knocking efforts.
6. Work with tenants to conduct research and organize local campaigns to improve housing conditions.
